4th Annual Strong Like Tom
Draws Record Crowd & Advances Cancer Research
The 4th Annual Strong Like Tom 5k was our biggest and most impactful event yet. On Sunday, August 31, 2026 more than. 235 runners, walkers, volunteers, supporters, and family members gathered to honor Tom's life and legacy. Watching Thomas Stewart Park fill with familiar faces, new friends, laughter, and determination was a reminder of what Strong Like Tom has always been about.
From all of us at Strong Like Tom, thank you. Your support, generosity, and presence made this incredible day possible. We already can't wait to see you in 2027!

This year's event exceeded every expectation. The race reached record participation, and our silent auction showcased an extraordinary collection of handmade crafts, artwork, gifts, and experiences generously donated by members of our community. We were also humbled by two anonymous gifts of $50,000 each, donated directly to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Tom's honor. Acts of generosity like these are difficult to put into words. They serve as a powerful reminder that Tom's story continues to inspire kindness, compassion, and meaningful action.

Funding Research
One of the most important aspects of Strong Like Tom is ensuring that every dollar raised helps advance critical cancer research. Dr. Dana Rathkopf, the Memorial Sloan Kettering physician who treated Tom, was unable to attend this year's event but shared a letter with participants. Her words captured the impact that our community is making: "With the support of Strong Like Tom, we have been able to advance innovative research for men with high-risk prostate cancer. I'm especially excited to share that we have completed enrollment in an investigator-initiated clinical trial testing a promising new treatment. The support from Strong Like Tom allows us to perform additional studies on the tumor tissue collected during surgery, studies that help us understand why treatment works for some patients but not others. Importantly, this additional research might not otherwise be possible, because there's often not enough funding to support these kinds of studies. I am deeply grateful to Strong Like Tom for making this work possible." These words remind us that the impact of this event extends far beyond race day. Through the generosity of our supporters, research is moving forward, new treatments are being explored, and future patients may benefit from discoveries being made today.
More Memories
Tom understood that life is not measured only by major milestones. It's measured in birthdays celebrated with family. Backyard barbecues with friends. Graduation ceremonies. Holiday gatherings. Ordinary moments that become extraordinary because they are shared with people we love. The work being funded through Strong Like Tom helps create more opportunities for families to experience those moments together. That is the legacy we continue to build, and it is only possible because of this incredible community.
